Protecting Texas’ natural resources through education and
enforcement of state laws is one of the primary missions of Texas A&M
Forest Service.
Texas A&M Forest Service currently employs 9 full-time investigators and 9 additional duty law enforcement officers
throughout the state who investigate and provide services to the public as
well as local, state and federal agencies. Texas A&M Forest Service Law Enforcement personnel investigate and provide training on wildfire origin and cause determination and wildland arson as requested by agency personnel, local fire departments, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, or other law enforcement agencies. As trained experts in
investigating felony and misdemeanor timber theft cases, staff often serve as subject matter experts regarding violations of the Natural
Resources Code.
An anonymous hotline is also maintained for the public to report crimes of wildland arson and timber theft.

Texas A&M Forest Service Law Enforcement Investigators are supported by
Additional Duty Law Enforcement Officers (ADLEO). ADLEOs are agency employees who
are sworn peace officers commissioned by Texas A&M Forest Service LE and perform law enforcement duties in addition to their regular duties within the agency.
