Big Tree Registry Grows Even Bigger

The Texas Big Tree Registry has a new addition, with the state’s largest known willow oak (Quercus phellos) tree being confirmed about 10 miles northeast of Marshall.The tree is on land owned by the Phil and David Simpson families of Avinger. It has a circumference of 244 inches, a height of 107 feet and a crown spread of 118 feet.The Big Tree Registry is designed to recognize the owners and nominators of the state’s largest trees in order to stimulate a greater public appreciation of trees.
