Primary Duties:

This position is in the Predictive Services Department. Its purpose is to aid in the collection of weather, environmental, and wildland fuels information that is used to develop products that enhance the ability of fire managers to make sound decisions for both short and long range strategy development, resource allocations, and ensure the safety of firefighting and emergency response personnel. This position will specifically be responsible for maintenance, repair and installation of the agencies Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS), and the collecting, measuring and distribution of information pertaining to live woody and herbaceous fuel moistures.
Ocasional Duties:

Assist with Texas Forest Service agency and emergency response needs.
Required Education and Experience:

Required Education: High School graduate or equivalent.Required Experience: This is an experienced support staff field level position. At least three (3) years at the Resource Specialist III level or equivalent is required. In addition, good oral and written communication skills with a working knowledge of PC-based programs and software are needed. The ability to utilize GIS/GPS programs, word processing, spreadsheets, and the internet are desired.Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Must have a valid Texas drivers license or able to acquire one within 30 days of employment.

Other Requirements and Comments:

Working long hours, with minimal rest and in primitive conditions; exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes; walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching and kneeling; lifting and carrying heavy objects; driving motor vehicles for long distances; operating heavy equipment with related exposure to equipment vibration and noise; operating computers with monitors for extended periods of time. Emergency response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time. Persons serving in fire operations positions must meet a physical fitness standard which includes successfully completing a one mile walk in 16 minutes or less.
